All pets, and in particular dogs, must be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle in all public areas of Ancona Airport. If not, they must be carried in an appropriate case. All pet owners must be in possession of the appropriate tongs, plastic bags and absorbent material required to remove and clean up faeces.

Rules for Travel
Small Animals
Small animals may be transported in the passenger cabin in an appropriate container with an absorbent and waterproof base which does not exceed the dimensions indicated by the carrier regulations. Booking is compulsory.

Large Animals
Large animals must be transported in the cargo hold, which is pressurised, lit and heated, in an adequate container. Advance booking is obligatory.

We advise passengers to verify the procedure for transporting animals with their travel agents or airline.

Health and Safety Documents
E.U. Countries
All dogs, cats and ferrets must carry an E.U. pet's passport for transport within the E.U. This document must contain the personal details of the animal, photography and detailed information about certification with regard to vaccination against rabies and any other information which gives a complete overview on its health.

Non-E.U. Countries
Passengers intending to travel with animals to countries outside the European Union are advised to contact a vet in their country to check the necessary procedures and documentation for each state.

Any passengers wishing to enter Italy from non-EU countries with an animal must provide a health certificate and certificate of origin and/or a document for the animal which shows identification information, dates of anti rabies vaccinations, including annual booster injections and anti-distemper injections. Documents must be presented to customs officials when entering national territory. If the animal is under three months old, a further guarantee is required stating that it is free from infectious diseases, has been in captivity from birth and does not come from farms subject to restrictive measures.

Any passengers wishing to bring unaccompanied animals into the EU, must agree to a check by a vet from the PIF (Posto di Ispezione Frontaliero, present at the airport), who will provide a cross border entry certificate.

Protected species
Anyone wishing to enter with birds, fish, frogs or turtles must provide a certificate of origin provided by the country of origin.
Any protected species (parrots, aquatic turtles, ornamental fish…) must be accompanied by a CITES certificate, which authorises exportation.
